Brighton Women's Centre - 40th Year Anniversary
Artist Residency - Brighton Womens Centre 40th Anniversary.
The Selfie Project And Local Narratives: Stories Of Women In Brighton And Hove.
To celebrate the Brighton Womens Centre 40th anniversary I worked with volunteers and members of the centre alongside the local community to create two bodies of work exhibited at Jubilee Library and The Brighton Dome as part of International Women’s Day.
Over four months, I photographed local female identifying residents and discussed with them what made them proud to be a women in modern society. Working with centre members and the local community, I was interested to discover what challenges women still face and how we can work together to overcome these.
As part of this program, I ran workshops with centre memebers, volunteers and at The Brighton Pride events, facilitaing discussions around feminity and female identity and getting creative with photography and writing.
The work was exhibited at Jubillee Library and further events and workshops were held for International Womens Day at The Brighton Dome. These projects continue to be exhibited as part of the Brighton Women’s Centre contribution each year for International Women’s Day.
